The collection of photos on this page include aircraft at Naples. These photos were taken by Wayne Carter during his duty assignment with VR-24 Det Naples from 1955 1957.

Anyone who has photos or information that he/she cares to share with "shipmates" and friends is encouraged to send them to Dick Prather, Webmaster/Editor of the VR-24 website.

An AJ Savage, tail marking TP on the ramp at Capodichinno. The nose marking (1), partially obscured by the cockpit cover, indicates this to be the squadron skipper's aircraft

(carter)

An AD3Q on the ramp at Capodichinno, probably 1956. The unit to which this aircraft is assigned cannot be determined from the photo.

(carter)

A Grumman F9F-8 Cougar on the ramp at Capodichinno.

(carter)

A shot of the Italian Air Force hangar area on the north side of the runway at Capodichinno. Visible are two Fairchild C-119s.

(carter)

A Bristol Freighter in RCAF markings at Capo. The comical nose markings may have been added by the plane's flight crew.

(carter)

Another view of the simple, but sturdy, configuration of the Bristol Freighter. Photo taken 10/7/1956 at Capodichinno.

(carter)

The Station's Grumman UF-1. This aircraft replaced the PBY Catalina shown in Ramp Watch Page Five above as the primary Air-Sea rescue aircraft for Naples.

(carter)

The Piasecki HUP2 shown here appears to be a transient, probably from a U.S. Navy aircraft carrier at anchor in the Bay of Naples. The HUP2 was also used by several Helicopter Utility (HU) squadrons but it's unit identity cannot be determined since the tail marking is not visible in this late afternoon photo.

(carter)

An uncommon photo of a USAF C-54 on the ramp at Capodichinno.

(carter)

The excact details are unavailable, but Wayne Carter recalled that this SNB landed off-airport and needed a lift back to the field. Presumably, the rest of the aircraft came home on other trucks.
