The photos on this page are from the collection of Hamilton Duncan who served as an Aviation Electrician at Naples during the early 1960s. The photos are from the Chief Petty Officers' initiation held for those advancing to that grade in February 1963.

Anyone who has photos or information they wish to contribute to the VR-24 website is encouraged to send them to Dick Prather, Webmaster/Editor of the VR-24 website.

Here, AEC iniatiate Ember, VR-24 Det Naples receives libation from a pitcher.

(duncan collection)

Having just been fed from a pitcher, AEC Ember has no doubt been directed to do the same to his fellow initiate, Hamilton Duncan..

(duncan collection)

Charged with some imaginary transgression, this initiate identified only by his rating, that of Parachute Rigger, has been directed to drink some concoction while lieing under the table.

(duncan collection)

Their travails complete, the five Chief Petty selectees listen as the Officer in Charge of Naval Air Facility, Naples pays tribute to their achievement in attaining the status of Chief Petty Officer.

(duncan collection)

Due to the raucous nature of some rites to which the CPO initiates were subjected, presentation of their certificates of promotion was usually done a day or so after the initiation. Here, the OinC of NAF Naples presents certificates to AEC Lamb, AEC Hamilton Duncan, an unidentified Chief Parachute Rigger, and AEC Ember. All except the Chief Parachute Rigger were assigned to VR-24 Det Naples. The other new CPO was assigned to NAF Naples.
